Week 41 - Her Life's A Song

Tuesday:
We went to check and see if it service could be offered at our local stables(Shout out to my sister Nicole for the inspiration). We ventured in and wandered sort of helplessly around what we thought to be the main building where we bumped into one of our Old-Lady friends from knitting club! We were like, what? Hi Benda!!!!! She directly us to one of the indoor areas and instructed that we, "speak with Christina" . We followed her directions and made our way through the stables. On the way we passed some of the most magestical looking horses I have ever seen. And like, some of these buddies were so huge. It was insane. After running into some other riders and asking them for help we found the arena, in which we found Christina, mounted on top of a tall, night black, danish warm blood. She said we were welcome to come back on Thursday to volunteer:) on the way out, I said hi to a couple fjords, a bunch of danish warmbloods, a haflinger, some thoroughbreds, and a stocky brabant. (That one was for you Nicole).

Wednesday:
• Lesson with Maj: We stopped by Majs house and had about 20 minutes to talk and visit. Luckily she answered and let us in! We talked about the Holy Ghost and its influence in our lives.
• District Meeting: We talked about what it means to be a successful missionary. It was good!
• KNITTING CLUB! Otherwise known as the reason I get out of bed every morning. Haha jkjk. I was bummed that it was probs my last one (cus I'll mostly likely be moving in a week) but it was still so fun to talk with all of my grandmas. They legit all roasted me because I thought that my one ball of yarn would be enough to make a scarf. Haha they were laughing so hard! I was like c'mon guys I've never knitted before but they showed no mercy.
Later that day when we were out knocking sister Paras used one of my weaknesses as a finding tool. We were in an apartment building and a woman opened her door wearing a "cocio" shirt. Cocio is the chocolate milk here. I am obsessed with Cocio. So anyways sister Paras outed my chocolate milk addiction to this lady as a way to bond with her and try to share the gospel. I would be mad if it didnt work so well. She ended up laughing with sister Paras so hard at me and my red face that we had a good chat. You know I am cool with it, we all have to make sacrifices to bring about good causes.

Thursday: Boommmbbb day! Started it out at the riding school where we painted stalls and dusted judging booths. It was super fun and sister Paras was happy to be around horses. I liked how it smelled there, reminded me of home!🤣 #allswellinwellsville

We also had a lesson with our new friend Rebecca. We found her phone number in the apartment and decided to try and give her a call-welp she wanted to meet up and we talked about the church and what she has learned about it! She was really excited, at the end, she said that if she felt it was true she would be baptized! She has committed to setting finding an answer as a priority in her life right now. Keep her in your prayers!
After that we went out finding with a really sweet member, Andreia. She is from Portugal, doesn't speak Danish, and knows little English. So we played a lot of charades!! Haha we were happy to get her out with us and she was sure happy about it too. Finding with the members is the best.
We also had institute that night, where we talked about the importance of studying the scriptures, it was a great night:)

Friday: Mostly finding, went well! Met some kind people and maybe future friends. We also went around to local hospitals and tried to get our names listed as "clergy" for people to call in times of crisis. We just got a lot of hard no´s. So we asked if we could just leave our cards,,, more hard nos. Oh well, at least we tried!

Saturday: Splits with Søster Webb! It was super chill and way fun to go finding with her again.

Sunday: I spoke in church! It was great! I talked about choosing acting in Faith rather than acting out of fear. I wore a cute new dress and my Danish grandmas hyped me up and made me feel like a model.

We had a really great contact today and gave out a Book of Mormon with it! It feels so good to testify of what you know to be true and to do all you can to help others learn about Jesus Christ and true happiness. I am so happy to be here!

I må ha en dejlig uge ya hear. Elsker jer.

Week 40 - Every Storm Runs out of Rain

This week I discovered that if all of my friends jumped off of a cliff, I would indeed jump too.

We spent much of the week all over Denmark AGAIN. Which I guess isn't saying much, since you could literally drive from the west coast to the east in 3 hours, but like, that's just 3 hours where you're not baptizing people, what a waste, am I right?

But anyways, After finally making it back to Herning at the beginning of the week, we headed up north to Frederikshavn and Skane, where we had a meeting with the missionaries up there, interviews with President, and visited a famous lighthouse. I will never forget how hard that wind blew, nor will I forget the comical scene of our district leader Elder Redd doing backflips down one of the sand dune hills as a group of Germans clapped for him and requested "more flips!" In broken English. Klassisk.

We greeted the following day at 4am to head on back to Copenhagen (I drove and did just fine thank you very much,, @søshepworth) where I would take my required language test so I can stay in the country. Dejligt. Test took about 20 minutes and was pretty simple Danish #blessup🙏. Plus I got to be on splits with my true homie, Søster Hepworth #perks.

After we FINALLY were back and settled Sister Paras and I were glad to just jump back into the work. We were blessed to be able to give out 3 copies of the Book of Mormon and even got one phone number and one address! God is so good!!! We also found a little hidden gem of apartment buildings to knock close to our place, we are so blessed!!

Valentine's day isn't huge here, but because of American influence, its popularity is on the rise and people definitely know what it is. Because of that, we decided to try our luck in giving out some Valentine's and use our origin as an excuse to do so. We gave out cookies with scriptures about God's love attached. It was fun! Most people were pretty confused and tried to pay us for the cookies..... but we got some good conversations out of it and made people smile! We also brought some cookies to people we teach, some less actives, and then to the senior missionary couple we ate dinner with later that night. It was a fun day!

I hit my half way mark on Saturday, and we celebrated by getting some Burgers:) its crazy that I've been here that long!!

I really enjoyed church on Sunday. Members here have tough shells, but once you crack them a bit, you're in for life. I have finally been here long enough to feel like I'm close to a lot of the members and I can't tell you how much I love all of my cute Danish grandmas!!! Haha! Translating this Sunday was fun as one of our speakers was a visiter from København(Copenhagen)! Haha he had that fast sharp city accent that took me back to my time in training, and this time I could understand most of it! It was nice to see that I've learned something🤣 We also were able to get a ton of member/missionary finding splits planned for the week and we are way pumped for that, especially cause we don't have any appointments planned yet.

Although we were blessed with a couple days of calm and sunshine, we unfortunately spent those days in Copenhagen and Frederikshavn. Other than that the wind and rain has continued to rage on. Church was cancelled again up north to protect the members safety.

But yeah, jeg elsker jer, I hope you're all loving life and those around you! I know Christ lives!

Week 39 - The Friends Theme Song

!!!!!!LISTEN UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First and foremost,,,, SHOUT OUT TO FRIGGIN SISTER HEPWORTH. She is a bomb missionary and an even more bomb friend. She's a great listener and advice giver.

I spent a good chunk of this week in Copenhagen with her taking a required "culture course" on marriage and divorce laws in Denmark (what? Is in fact the proper response). Sister Hepworth spent the whole affair in what I can only call a "frenzied-focus" as her weekly emails have become somewhat of a hit in the Denmark Copenhagen mission and the hype following this email left her thriving under the pressure of great expectations.

So as I describe the course, I just want you to imagine Sister Hepworth creating a weekly email after the same manner of Gordan Ramsay creating a fine dish. The note taking, the somewhat extra photography, the screaming, "WHERE IS THE LAMB SAUCE?" as she digs thru her bag. It was the juicy cherry on top to the icecream Sunday of entertainment I enjoyed this week.

I'm not going to describe the course in full, as I am not as dedicated nor as talented as Sister Hepworth, so if you would like to hear more about it give my mom a phone call and ask for a recount of Heps emails.

The class was taught by a small round Danish man who spoke fast and very Danish English. The room was filled with old respected people of significance from many different religions-and a bunch of young very goofy missionaries. We got a lot of info on who we can and cannot marry in Denmark and also snacks. When we weren't listening we were knitting, drawing, reading, and passing notes. It was a good couple of days.

Unfortunately other than that our week was not very eventful. Our appointments fell through and we spent a lot of time out finding. We have another lesson with Katja tomorrow though, we are so excited for that.

A storm raged all over Jylland this weekend-and the wind continues to howl outside of our downtown apartment as I type. On Sunday, it was so bad they canceled church in the branch up north and the elders drove down to come to our branch. They made fun of me as I made my best efforts to translate the strong Jysk mixed with deep doctrine and they almost crashed our eating appointment that day. Stay in your lane elders. The crazy weather has made the work even more difficult and our prayers to help us find friends have expanded to prayers to help us find energy. We get our laughs in by singing, "put your shoulder to the wheel" out in the wind and rain. Haha I love sister Paras. I'm way happy.

I don't know a lot of things, like A LOT of things. I'm still just a kid after all. But one thing I do know is that God has a plan for all of us and will put us in the exact situation we need to be in in order to help us to grow. Like me being in Herning for example, I'm pretty isolated. It's sometimes hard, but for the most part it's been a blessing as it has given me time to think over what my priorities are and the kind of missionary I'd like to be. With no distractions I have just been able to lose myself in the work. I am so grateful.

Keep Christ in your heart and a smile on your face!

Week 38 - Don't Forget to Remember Me

Halløj, I just finished frolicking through the woods.

On Tuesday søster Paras and I felt that we should go knock on Victoria's (the girl that we met on Christmas eve) door and see how she was doing. She was surprised to see us, saying, "The last time I was going through a difficult day like today was the day I first met you both," she let us in and we talked a bit and made an appointment for Thursday 😊

Thursday was just straight up bomb considering we had our lesson with Katja and with Victoria. The spirit was SO STRONG during both. They were both so humble and willing to listen. My favorite part was definitely hearing Victoria offer her first prayer at the end of our lesson. Makes me so happy.

Wednesday we had Zone Konferance, it's always fun to see old friends there and support each other.

Other than that, I guess you could say our week wasn't too eventful or exciting. Just like most other weeks. Which leaves a lot of room and time for us to either become discouraged or to make a conscious effort to better ourselves. I've thought a lot about the different goals I can set and how I can constantly be working to become better on my mission and in my life. In my studies of this, I came across a story, here's my recap-

There once walked a man with a camera, photographing flora and fauna down a winding path.

As he enjoyed the beauties around him, he stumbled upon a garden. The garden bloomed with exotic flowers of an array of varieties and colors. He excitedly pointed the camera through the iron fence guarding the greenery. Setting the focus on some bright yellow blooms, he startled when the perfect image was interrupted by a gloved hand.

The man looked up from the camera to see a gardener who greeted him with a smile.

"Are you the caretaker here?" The man asked.
"I am," said the gardener with a humble nod.
"You're garden is beautiful!" exclaimed the photographer, "I have never seen anything like this!"
"Thank you," replied the gardener, "Would you like to come in and see the rest?"

The man hastely accepted and hurried in as the gardener held the gate open.

They walked together along the grounds admiring trees, shrubs, and hedges, all kept in perfect order. As they went the man beheld that the garden stretched and wrapped around a spectacular mansion, fit for a king.

"Wow," he gasped, "How many workers does it take to take care of this place?"
"Oh it's just me," the gardener replied.
"Just you? Why it's so big! Don't you every get overwhelmed?" Exclaimed the man.
"Sometimes," the gardener began, "But when the owner comes to visit, and I see him smile down from the balcony, it makes it all worth it,"
The man was shocked, "Visit?" He asked, "You mean the owner doesn't live here?"
"No, but he visits from time to time," the gardener said, pulling weeds he noticed creeping around the end of the path.
"And you don't even know when he's coming?" Asked the man, still puzzled.
"Not usually," the gardener answered.
"That's insane!" The man didn't even know what to say.
"By the looks of this garden, I'd think you were expecting him tomorrow."
The gardener smiled.
"No," he whispered, "I'm expecting him today,"

Now we don't know when Christ will come, but we do know that he is coming. Maybe it will be in a hundred years, maybe in a couple of months, maybe even in a few weeks. Either way, the best way to prepare for the Saviors coming tomorrow, is to be prepared today.

Elsk jer🐐
